Your Christmas gift is our donation to the home of coffee!

Ethiopia is the cradle of coffee and the origin of the Arabica coffee bean.  Our coffee is made with the Arabica coffee bean which is sold all over the world. Unfortunately, Ethiopia is also one of the world’s poorest countries, and for that reason, our traditional Christmas gift will go to the Cheshire Home, a rehabilitation home for handicapped children, located twenty kilometres west of Addis Ababa. The Cheshire Home receives no state support, is  politically independent, and has to rely on donations, voluntary organisations, and the generosity of others.

The Cheshire Centre is made up of three units –

  • The rehabilitation centre cares for up to 70 children and is able to provide minor surgery and physiotherapy.   During the rehabilitation, the children can also attend school.  Three smaller centres are to be found in the towns of Dire Daa, Harar and Awasse.

  • A mobile outreach service continues to follow up the children’s development and their progress with the use of new walking aids after they have left the centre.

  • A workshop – this is where walking aids such as crutches, orthopaedic shoes, wheelchairs etc are made and repaired.  The workshop is crucial to the centre and it is here we have chosen to send our Christmas gift this year.

Read more about it at cheshireservicesethiopia.org and ethiopianbeans.se.

Physiotherapy helps the children learn to walk again with
the help of special aids.

Whilst in rehabilitation, the children participate in handicraft work, play and schooling.

This bus is carrying a team of Physiotherapists, an orthopaedist and orthopaedic technician and social worker. These wonderful people reach the handicapped children in various parts of the country, and over the period of a year, will contact more than 4,000 children who have received walking aids.

The children’s centre makes a range of walking aids such as crutches, artificial legs and wheelchairs in its workshop.
